Vintage Hermes Ceinture Canvas and Leather Tote Bag

This vintage Hermes Ceinture tote is a beautifully understated example of the house's more utilitarian designs. Crafted in natural cream canvas with rich dark brown grained leather trim, the bag has a generous open tote silhouette finished with distinctive leather straps threaded around the exterior, giving the Ceinture its name, which translates from French as "belt".

The contrast between the structured leather base, vertical leather panels and natural canvas gives the bag a timeless, almost equestrian feel. Two substantial leather top handles allow it to be carried comfortably by hand or in the crook of the arm, while the belt style fastening can be drawn in to alter the shape of the bag.

The spacious interior is finished in coordinating natural canvas with a dark brown leather base and a large zipped pocket. With its generous proportions and wide 17cm depth, this is a particularly practical vintage Hermes tote, with plenty of room for everyday essentials and more.

Made in France, the bag carries a K in a square date stamp, dating it to 2007. The additional J stamp is an artisan's mark, identifying the craftsman involved in its production.

Condition
Good vintage condition with signs of wear consistent with age and use. The natural canvas shows some general discolouration, light marks and spotting throughout, while the dark brown leather has developed gentle wear and character, particularly around the handles, edges and trim. There is some rubbing to the leather piping and areas of surface wear. The interior canvas also shows some marks and discolouration from use. The leather remains supple and the overall structure of the bag is good. Please refer closely to the photographs for the overall condition.
